'The first goal may have been given off by VAR'

It wouldn't. It was too close to be called as a mistake and the decision would have stood.

Yes and no, if you play three at the back with a decent footballing defender such a Rice, then one of the three should always step out and mop up infront where needed. Like England did in the world cup, they played a 'back three' but most of the time Maguire pushed up and was actually in midfield.

Mourinhos proper sour grapes interview stating Zabaleta and Anderson being off side made me laugh, maybe Zabaleta but Anderson was passive for the initial ball but then the second phase (Zabaletas cross) not offside at all.

It was more noticeable in the analysis of the Everton game but Rice drops back as an extra defensive player when one of the centre backs has to shuffle over to cover a full back.
Having a player that knows how a centre back plays means we can have a back 3 when needed.
As said a lot of these formations aren’t set in stone but react to how the play develops.
We have looked much more solid as a result instead of previously where teams exploited massive gaps down the sides as the centre backs weren’t confident about moving over to cover. Or teams strolled through the middle without Rice to hold them up.

Eerie. I've said for 3 years we need a proper DM to protect the defence.

Having that instead of 3 at the back protects them and stops attacks before it gets to the danger area

Nice to see goals on Sunday
A) not even mention the 'offside
B) give us credit instead of it just being man u not playing well

There isnt a massive amount of difference between the way we played today, with Rice infront of the back 4 and playing 3 at the back. Just down to Rice's starting position. Having Rice covering the defence, allows the fullback the same freedom as a back three. Then again, i think too much is made of 'formations'.

"Mourinho is a classless cunt though and i hope he loses his job "

He is, but I hope that he DOESN'T lose his job, but convinces them that he can turn it round, only to watch them plummet down the table and crash out of the FA Cup.

Following on from the comments about our defence and the massive improvement, where have the 3 AT THE BACK mob disappeared to?

They had about 3 players BLATANTLY offside for a goal they scored that night as well, Jose seemed pretty happy to shrug that off at the time.

Ibrahimovic being two yards offside for his goal.

The Phil Jones dive that got Feghouli sent off, and we had to play with 10 men for nearly the whole match. Card later rescinded. Incident forgotten about because it went in Man Utd's favour.

Fuck off.

We did these quite recently in the FA Cup up at OT with that Payet freekick until the German cunt committed a foul for them to equalise to then win the replay and then the cup itself Hardly a mention of that marginal yet they still have their name and n the cup and that’s all that matters isn’t it?

Geoff, I’m not convinced that that line is geometrically correct. It looks manipulated to me.

West Ham or not, I’ve always felt that marginal decisions like this should favour the attacking team.

I don’t know why the media are even discussing it. Actually, I do. It’s because it went against Manchester United.

I can't believe the decisions are still being debated, the amount of fucking decisions gone against us over the years, constantly and blatant, yet there's drama over a fucking inch offside. Fucking hell.

We were superb yesterday, defence wise the keeper is superb and tbd confidence he gives his defenders and us fans is something that we haven't been used to, Diop is a beast and Balbuena so intelligent and the compliment each other, Zaba is playing well, but a special mention goes to Masuaku, he has been rinsed by our fans since he joined, but he has massively improved defensively, he is so silky on the ball, and is probably our most improved player.

For fuck sake, when a "big club" lose there always has to be a reason, and here we are discussing it as well! Had we lost 3-1, would the pundits, media and Man U supporters be focusing on what may or may have not been offside?

NO, didnt think so.................

How was Anderson offside?
He was behind Zabaleta when he crossed wasn’t he?

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Man Utd - Official Match Thread FT 3-1
Claret and blue specs.

Zab was marginally offside. By a toe, shiny head and shoulder? If he had a quiff, it'd be "yards".

Anderson also offside, for that matter.

But... it wasn't given. No VAR. So what? Revise the score to 2-1? Hundreds of MARGINAL decisions taken every game.

Media bound to stir it as it adds to Man Utd TRAUMA. Makes it even funnier.

I wouldn't give a fuck if all of our goals against them were contentious. Fuck 'em. We outplayed them and as Pickle said, nothing sweeter than the sound of the Surrey faithful gnashing their teeth and mewling about how hard done by they were. Cunts the lot of 'em.

Yes they shouldn't have had the corner leading to their goal. Ref should have pulled up for a foul before,
